Addiction is a devastating disease that affects our entire community in many ways.

The monetary cost alone is staggering. The community must band together and be willing to offer help and support any way it can. The war on drugs has failed. It was doomed from the start. The only effective way to win the war on drugs is to teach people to live without them. The only way to eliminate the 'drug problem' is to eliminate drug addiction. If the need for drugs is no longer there, the drug problem will disappear on its own. Education and retraining is the first step. Treatment can help provide that first step. The rest is up to the individual. And how well they do, is in part, directly related to how well their transition into mainstream society proceeds. This is where we come in. This is a task that can't be done alone. Your help is desperately needed. The majority of people start this journey with very little material possessions. Some come straight from jail or prison. Not owning so much as decent clothes to seek employment can be a very overwhelming prospect. Recovery Alumni helps as much as possible with its limited resources. Members have been known to pay out of their own pocket for necessities to help out. They can only do so much. Clothing, household furnishings and items as simple as dishes or silverware are sometimes needed. Affordable housing, automobiles; even those needing a little repair could be used at times. Offers of employment, if only part time or temporary are much in demand.

Employment:

There are Alumni still employed with the same company that originally hired them and have turned out to be among their most dependable and honest workers. Being an alcoholic or an addict does not make someone a criminal. Although many have been compelled to commit crimes to feed their addiction, we have learned that way of life disappears once the individual gets clean and starts to become a productive member of society.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST HURDLES a client must overcome when re-entering mainstream society is finding gainful employment. There are many factors that can affect this:

Housing:

ANOTHER DIFFICULTY is finding affordable housing in a clean and sober living environment. The need is greater than the supply.

What can you do to help?

In the coming year Recovery Alumni Association with be hosting several fund-raising events.  These funds will go directly to help those in recovery with the costs of transportation, treatment, and clean and sober housing while they are transitioning back to mainstream living.  Your tax-deductible contribution will add to what RAA can do to support these individuals in their recovery.

RAA will gratefully accept monetary donations, gift cards, raffle prizes, and sponsorships for upcoming events as well as much-needed items such as furniture, vehicles, and appliances.  If you would like your donation to be used for a specific purpose (i.e. rehabilitative treatment or transitional housing) or for a specific individual, please note this and include it with your donation.

If you, as a member of this community,

Are willing and able to help, we can overcome this dilemma. If you would like to make a donation please send it to the address below. If you have material goods to donate, please contact us at:
